There is a java entrance on my lexxverse site, or you can download xchat at xchat.org for free for a 30 day trial. It has very good instructions on how to use it at the site, I would recommend it for newbies to chat programs. FEFNET is already preloaded onto xchat, so that would be the irc server to choose, then it brings up a box once it connects to the server and asks you what room to join, you join #lexxcast, I would recommend this for most people, as it should work both for macs and windows.

There is a java entrance on my lexxverse site, it doesn't work for me, says "java applet failed". IRC is the direct source of maleovent hacker stuff. And I got some. CGI's are safer. I only visit chats via CGI's or Java's. Unless there is a chat program with a proxy on it.

Xchat, Excursion and mirc are all reliable programs for IRC chatting. You can find the programs at: www.excursion.cjb.netwww.xchat.orgwww.mirc.comIf you can't use Java based chats, then that is the only other option, we have no CGI chat portal.

I can use Java based chats. Project Offset uses the same exact Java chat and it works just fine.
I got past the "Java Applet Failed" error, now I even see the chat and all, but as it logs me on, it says:
"-exobit.fef.net- *** Notice -- You need to install identd to use this server [16:05] Error : Closing Link: 127.0.0.1 (Install identd) [16:05] Disconnected from irc.fef.net "
What on earth is identd and how do I install it?

If java isn't working, then just try xchat, it's free for 30 days, and is very simple to use, their site has a guide on how to use it with 3 simple and very easy steps. The network to connect to is FEFNET, already pre-built into xchat.
The only thing I've done when when getting an ident prob is reboot, and sometimes that works, if it doesn't work then a person is sh*t out of luck for the night and then you have to use a different program to access a server where you get that notice on, or just can't get on, it could be a firewall prob. It's happened before, it shall happen again says the time prophet...

oh that identd thing is a pain, i remember when i first set up mirc had to fiddle with that, and read up on google. usually there are some settings in the prog to get that working.

The Identd thing might have something to do with an IRC worm or something on the operating computer. If you have an IRC worm, it won't let you log in sometimes, I had to remove one to be able to use my Excursion IRC program.

fef.net server has rules to prevent bots and abuse Oh my, that reminds me. We at our Project Offset chat had a meeting with out developers, and about 6 of them came, then the server suddenly kicked them off! Imagine 6 LEXX crew members coming and getting kicked off! They all came from the same IP and the server didn't like that. ;D We had to convince the server administrator to allow multiple connections from the devs' addresses, but before that, they all had to use proxies or different computers, but they all came back in the end... I highly doubt I have an IRC worm - I don't use IRC, unless that worm can come from other places other than IRC, still, where? Google says identd can be a problem by itself. I'm just wandering what the heck do they want from you with that identd thing?
