Just wanted to throw out a hardy HEY! and HOW'S IT HANGIN to the one and only Cap'n Stan!!!!! Hope Christmas was good and that New Years will be warm full of all the cheer that's legal ;)in your Province.
p.s: I hear you are from Newfoundland. I'm glad you all have survived that nasty nuke that Pres. Priest dropped there. But maybe now those winters go by a little warmer? ay? All the best from Saskatchwan's southern (way south) neighbor, Kansas (aka: South Nunivut ;D ;D) Sam

Back at 'cha, SNS !
New Year's Eve was a quiet dinner at a very nice restaurant, and a few sparklers at midnight, and that was just what I wanted. I hope your evening was just what you wanted as well. Tep, I am a Newfoundlander (NOT a Newfie) , and winters there can be pretty severe. Huge amounts of snow at times, but we can have some years when we walk around in T-shirts in February . Right now, though, the east coast of Canada is actually warmer than the west coast. Sort of like New York being warmer than Kaleefornya (Arnold's pronunciation). Kansas can be a bit chilly as well, no ? BTW, the 'ay' should be 'eh', for most of Canada, but Newfoundland (for the most part) does not consider it a part of Canada, and a common tag at the end of a greeting, or statement is "b'y" - pronounced sort of like a quick and hard "bye", and liberally translated as "boy". It is a mostly male usage, but not reserved for males alone. The female tag would be either "me darlin'" or "duckie", again not necessarily reserved for females alone. So much for variations in the English language. Thanks for the note - don't be a stranger

Something that I learned recently about Newfoundland is that it was an English colony until 1948( I hope I got the facts right, if not then blame the History Channel).

Hey Pin !!
Actually it was the very first colony of the British Empire. It was claimed by Sir Humphrey Gilbert on August 28th, 1583. Australia, South Africa, the 13 American colonies, India, and lots of others came later. We joined Canada officially at one minute before midnight March 31st, 1949. There were 2 refferendums held in 1948 that were EXTREMELY close. If they had gone the other way, Newfoundland would be an independent country today, as it was before 1949. You had to have a passport to enter Newfoundland before then. Our isolation makes us feel as though we really still are a seperate country.... and we like it that way !!!! You ought to visit some day. But plan to take more than a few days - Newfoundland is one third larger than Ireland.

A nice quiet country that minds it's own business...As an American I like the sound of that. bty, in "The Rock" all the locals seem to have an Irish accent, is that accurate?

Brian,
I've heard it said that people are particuarly kind and friendly in Newfoundland. Is that true? How wonderful to hear.
I find Iowa to be such a place for me. I'm going down for a second visit to Mike Romkey later in the month.. in Bettendorf, and am really looking forward to it. Have you been there? It is truly a wonderful place. If you haven't yet, I hope you'll check it out some day.
I'd love to come to Newfoundland one day, I've heard so many wonderful things about the place.
Have a wonderful evening, Brian.
-Tom

Hi Brian (and everybody)!! This is Traveller And well...I travel. I deliver trucks and RV's and the like. Well I left home and forgot to write down my password :-[so I've created this new temporary ID (but I promise to use it from time to time). I picked the name because when I realized what I did I flashed on that poor couple in the boat at the end of "Xevivor". I can't talk long I'm at a truck stop in Memphis and other people want to use this station. Brian, I love your site and will be back soon! Regards and Peace Sam ps: Kansas' is cold (Not like Newfoundland though!) and the wind blows forever!

Hey Brian!! I just discovered your reply to my request for the hats,(I just discovered my PM box )thanks, I look forward to picking up one or two sometime soon!! Concerning the novel I mentioned, I found a listing on Amazon.co.uk. Also, anyone knows anything about this or if there is a copy available somewhere I would be interested! I just finished viewing the "wrap reel" on the Lexx 4.6 dvd. It great to see all you guys having so much fun while at work! I know it's been awhile since the wrap but I wish you all best and the biggest THANK YOU!!!and while you're at it Billy Bob: give my regards to "Nufundlund" ;D ;D.
