Last night I've meet my friends which did not see for a long time. We made a spirits party, everybody was tipsy and good. We drank till the morning... But today morning I was late for work and had very strong headache, very bad mood and... I have one question. Why when man is good, he don't think obout consequences? Though he knows that consequences will be very serious... I suggest everybody to share experience...

Oh yes, the headaches... (I love absinthe but that spirit gives me SUCH headaches. Ouch.) But hangover is a fair price to pay for feeling sooo good, huh? ;-) Though I got to admit I try to avoid getting too drunk these days. I do stupid things when drunk (like most of us, I guess) - and, unfortunately, I usually remember them the next day...;-)

About stupid things - YES! I'm too, but I often don't remember... Did you ever mix vodka, champagne and beer in common glass? My head realy took down with this mixture... I say nothing about next morning... How are you celebrating Christmas?

Vodka, champagne and beer in one glass? No, thanks...;-) Absinthe, wine, beer, vodka and bourbon in one evening is bad enough...;-) CXelebrating Christmas - well, I am enjoying all the presents - folks around me very cleverly took advantage of my latest interest/obsession - so most of my presents are China/HK/Southeast Asia related... Books & DVDs (and - um - some DivX stuff ), mostly...:-) And I eat. A lot. Which is very very bad, but also very very pleasant. For now. It's gonna be very unpleasant when the extra food transforms into extra pounds. And I simply enjoy being at home and worshipping the domestic hearth (Dickens would approve, I'm sure).

I have to confess that - coming from a huge Irish/English background in Newfoundland where pubs and bars have abounded for centuries - I had to learn how to avoid the consequences of 'too much the night before'. Many things were suggested, few things actually worked. So I did a bit of research on the phenomenon of the "hangover". It seems that alcohol has a tendency to evaporate rather quickly. Now this, on its own is a "so what" kind of thing. Sadly, in our blood stream - which is where alcohol just loves to go - there is water... which gets all mixed in with the alcohol....while, all the time, the alcohol is having a party in our silly brains. A simple equation.... the more alcohol that parties, the water gets mixed into the party . And all of this is fine while it is going on. Alcohol has numbed us. It is a drug, after all. In the morning (or at some time the next day) as the alcohol is leaving our system by evaporating, there goes the water too . Actually the evaporation begins to take place the moment we stop putting alcohol into our unsuspecting, gently flowing bloodstream. Now, as the alcohol AND the water disappear, our blood vessels constrict. The problem is, our hearts ( hopefully still beating) still need to get through all the pathways they normally flow through, but those pathways have now shrunk...the blood piushes and pushes... it gives us a headache, and a queasy feeling. We need to get water back into our system. But water by itself is not enough, because we have lost electrolytes along with the water.... electrolytes are a complex mixture of salts which are necessary for the retention of water in our system. Gatorade is one simple answer. It is not perfect, but it will give you water and a decent supply of electrolytes....drink it the night before, as you are going to bed, and it helps while you sleep.. drink it the morning after, and it will eventually help. BTW, all distilled drinks - vodka, scotch, gin, etc., - have complex carbon compounds that serve to inhibit alcohol from leaving our system. Burbon has more of this compound than any other booze. Drink Jack Daniels, and you'll stay drunker longer, and wake up boozier than your pals who had scotch. So, if you want to feel better more quickly than you will having a coffee or raw egg in tomato juice, keep gatorade handy at home....and force yourself to do a bit of exercise to help it work through your system more quickly. And that's all from cousin brian for this evening...... Oh.. yeah.. I forgot... asprin ( regular asprin not acetomenophin, advil , ibubrofin, etc) forces your capilliaries open to let blood flow more freely.. but the walls of the vessles might burst, so don't take too much. And.... cheers !!!

Thanks for advices against a hangover, Brian. I think I will taste coffee or tomato juice with egg tomorrow morning But asprin... No, I prefer not to mix medicine and alcohol - it can badly come to an end... Though there are man, who wash down asprin with beer/cocktail and feel better. But it's too severely... And about scotch or Jack Daniels... Those things are too expensive for poor students In our land at least... But for new year it is possible to make an exception... I got my brother some absinthe for Christmas - hope his head doesn't hurt too much... Goblin, everything depend of quantity... Tell about result plz!

Ugh, aspirin - I've been taking the stuff every 4 hours for days now. Finally told myself to stop being macho and go to a doctor - turns out I have badly inflamed eardums... So, tonight I shall be having a quiet night in with some anti-biotics and painkillers Hope everyone has fun this New Year!

Hope you're feeling better Goblin. As for hangover remedies, I'd gladly take gatorade over a raw egg any day.

Thanks for the well wishes – I am nearly all better now, though my right ear still sounds like everything is underwater.
It’s amazing how much problems with your ears affect your sense of balance – I’ve been walking into things all week! But on the plus side, I have been able to watch Battlestar Galactica without the camera movements making me queasy ;D

I just don't drink. I enjoy watching people making fools out of themselves and then them coming to me to ask "what happen lastnight?"
