Yes, I'm finally going to DragonCon. I've always wanted to go since 2003. But I have plans to take off work and go to next year's Dragon Con event.

I've been twice and it's a blast. Talk about a people-watching extravaganza... So many costumes, some good, some bad, some funny. And then there is the late night madness in the Hyatt lobby. Staying right there at the Hyatt or the Marriott is expensive, but if you can find a roommate that helps cut the cost. Also there is a mall adjacent to the hotels so you can find some relatively inexpensive food too. There might even be a Lexx fan table again, so you will get to meet some of the fans on this message board. Eventually the convention organizers will start posting updates on the website: www.dragoncon.org/

I'll show up anyway and have fun.

Although Brian, Xenia, Jeffrey, Patricia and Louise were all at DragonCon 2003, it seems unlikely that any of them will show up at future DragonCons. Unfortunately conventions aren't very profitable for a lot of the celebrities. Still, they may yet be persuaded to do some conventions in the future if a good opportunity (and a good convention manager) pops up. Besides, I owe Brian several beers from the last Toronto Trek. You will definitely have a good time at DragonCon though. Start saving up now, and find a couple of friends to split the cost of a room. It's worth it to stay at the Marriott or the Hyatt just to be in the middle of it all.

In fact, daydreamer2005, Not only would it be a good idea to room with someone in either the Hyatt or the Marriott, but it would also be a good idea to save some money for the event; we'll probably have a table again next yr, but hopefully we'll get somemore Lexx guests there. I know that the Lexx guests who were there in 2003, had a great time; & who knows, may be more of them can go to DC (Dragon*Con). Stan Fan to Stan Fan, Karen

Since DragonCon will be my first vacation. I never been to Atlanta before and I was thinking that it would be a great idea if there would be someone from this website, to show me around.

I haven't really done much in the Atlanta area besides DragonCon. I have a friend who lives in the area, but he and his family are getting ready to move. I think you can take a tour of CNN studios and you might be able to catch a Braves game. There might even be a good band playing in the area. I found a couple of websites you might want to check too: www.atlanta.netwww.accessatlanta.comBut there may be enough going on at the convention that you won't have time to do much else. Especially with the late night frivolity. Of course it's still 9 months away so there's plenty of time to figure it all out.

Guys, If it is possible to have anyone going to DragonCon and has been there before, can meet me at the airport. It's just that I've never been anywhere on my own and I don't want to get lost.

You have plenty of time before you need to stress over those details... At any rate, most airports have plenty of signs and maps to show you how to get around, and Atlanta has a train system called MARTA. For $1.75 one of the trains will take you from the airport to downtown at Peachtree Center which is 2 blocks from the DragonCon hotels. Of course you could take a cab instead, but that's 25 bucks. Until then you might check out these websites to help out: www.itsmarta.com/www.atlanta-airport.com/Default.aspHope this helps.

Will any of the LEXX cast be going to the convention? Hey Thomas: Although DragonCon is several months away, it seems unlikely that any of the Lexx cast will be there. But we can always hope, right? I think Brian and the others still need a convention manager. Besides, the cost of transportation, lodging, food, and other expenses (vs. the small appearance fee paid by the convention) really makes some of the conventions a bit cost prohibitive. I do know that Ellen is going to be at GateCon in Vancouver, BC in late July though.

Well, just to make tyhe situation completely clear.... it is VERY expensive for anyone coming from Canada to appear at Dragoncon... yes, there is the air fare, the hotel expense, and the $1000 ( minimum) charge that Dragoncon charges for the 6 foot to 8 foot table that we sit behind, and we would need at least 2 of those. So, if just one of us went, it would cost us about $3000. There are conventions that do not charge the guests for tables, but that ridiculous Dragoncon fee is just too stupid for any of us to go along with... it just is not fair, and as far as I am concerned, it is NOT fan-friendly.... if I had to use a metaphor...Dragoncon is the K-Mart of conventions....too crowded, overpriced for value, in an inconvenient location, and WAY too concerned about making a profit.
I hope this helps explain why we would rather do smaller cons.
Brian

Most definitely clear. I understand why you wouldn't want to go there.
I don't see any reason why they should be charging you that much for a table.
If anything, they should be paying <you>. Cool guests like yourself are the very reason people go to conventions like that.
It seems to me they owe you <at least> a debt of gratitude.
I know I'm just an opinion, but that's how I feel about it.
What sort of 'smaller cons' would you opt to attend in stead? Let me know and I'll mark my calendar. I wouldn't want to miss it for the world.
Have a great one!
