Hi, Everyone, I do a lot of research on the Internet & probably check the IMDB (Internet Movie Data Base) << www.imdb.com/>> just about every day. (I frequently watch/have on in the background a lot of movies & often am, like, 'OK who's that face? ', so I pop onto the IMDB & scratch that li'l mental itch.) Anyway, today, unrelated to movies per se, I was re-labelling some .mp3's, & was checking out the form of the name of "The Mamas & The Papas", & discovered that Denny Doherty of The Mamas & The Papas died-- last year! Oh, no!!! For some reason, I hadn't heard of it. I usually do my form-of-band-name research on Wikipedia << en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page>> (English version). It had a link to the IMDB, so I went over there to check DD's page out. It mentioned that he was born in Halifax, which naturally made me think of Brian. So, I popped over to Brian's page at the IMDB << www.imdb.com/name/nm0235978/>>-- of course I'm sure y'all know it. The IMDB has a line "US TV Schedule" & I saw that "Candles on Bay Street" was playing tonight. It's on the Hallmark Channel & started 7 PM on the East Coast of the U.S. Here's the page for the film itself: << www.imdb.com/title/tt0869019/>>. Yay, Brian! For a little connection, Brian plays the character "Cee Jay" who is the owner of a pub/bar of the same name. "CJ" is my sometimes nickname, based on my initials. Brian, if I may ask-- is "Cee Jay" 's a real pub? (Do y'all call 'em pubs up there or bars?) Where is it located? It's about 50 min. into the movie & I haven't seen our Dear Brian yet. Ah'm keepin' my eye out, tho! 7:52 P (was just about to post this): Yay! Just saw 'im-- behind the bar! Yay! This is my 1st extra-LEXX viewing of Bri Da Guy.

You know....as we bop and shuck and jive down the many paths of life, we encounter people who are great during and experiences that are wonderful.... and just a little later we realize that those people were incompetent - and that's too bad, but shit happens. Now, from the film and TV business wehave all heard the expression , "My best work wound up on the cutting room floor" [the 'cutting room' meaning the edit suite]. So here's my very personal take on "Candles On Bay Street" . #1: Hallmark treats the people on their shoots very, very well. Nice accomodation, very good catering, crews numerous enough to make the days go smoothly, and generally, a very lovely atmosphere....and it doesn't stop there ! They send out the official flyers and posters of the show to the principal players, and invitations to the premiere screening in LA, as well. So.. great working experience...BUT - and I do mean BUT - the finished product is just a tad short of being amateur. I have seen 'Candles' and I couldn't believe it was the same show that (I thought) we had shot. The edit wasTERRIBLE ! It is sad that so much screen time was given to the lead players. This is bad only because it gives the audience very little context... to put it another way, we have actors in an emotional country, but we can see almost no landscape. It is like seeing a single number on a licence plate, and being expected to know the whole car. On a more personal note, I couldn't help but shake my head when I realized that scenes between Alicia ( and others) and I - which our director had been so enthusiastic about - had disappeared. And, as another personal observation, Polly Bergen was the only jerk on the shoot....all the leads, and all the other principals, and day-players were just wonderful. However, on a much more positive note.... the day I left for Europe, Sybil was broadcast on CBS, and I finally saw it a couple of evenings ago. Gottta say.. that Tammy Blanchard is AMAZING ! And Jessica was sooo good ! That, too, was a great shoot, and we had an ancient and amazing director and DOP.....check out Joseph (Joe) Sargent .... THIS is a great director ! The only scene I missed seeing ( although we were cautioned it would likely be cut) was the love-making scene with JoBeth Williams and I......I could tell you stories about that one ! Wouldn't you think that fake-love-making would be easier than real love making ? Not so ! Way more exhausting...I suppose that may be because of the repeated takes with the fake....quite often there is only one with the real.... AND on that happy thought......I wish my Canadian friends a very happy Canada Day, and my friends in Newfoundland the moments of silencewe must take for one of the sadest days in our nation's history...Beaumont Hamel will never be forgotten....and just in case many of our friends in the USofA are outward bound for the 4th and beyond..... if you drive more slowly, Exxon and Shell lose money, and that will piss Dickless Cheny off to no end. No matter what, just remember that the guy in the OTHER car is the imbicle, and that you can't argue with an idiot, so don't bother....he'll probably wind up as slush for the crows, anyway... and I end on that cherry thought.... I do care about all of you Lexx friends, and I do want you ALL to be safe, and happy.... And because it is "road" time for the Corvette crowd, and the Pinto crowd, the Airstream crowd, and the driving-to-grandma's crowd....let's hear about your favourite driving song...or the song you listened to most while on a trip (NOT LSD induced)...or the song that has stuck with you because of a voyage in the air, on the road, or at sea. .....I can start , even if it is a bit embarassing.....the first time I drove across the stretch of highway between Spanish Forks and Moab in Utah, I kept playing the very first Gypsy King's CD, with Bomboleo, etc. ....it fit perfectly for me, my car, and my state of mind. Amigo/a's .... Everything is an adventure , until you've done it twice.. Your best friend

This could easily be an entire message board thread on it's own... just talking about associating music with places, spaces, good times and bad... it literally IS like the soundtrack to our lives. A voyage in life, on the road or otherwise. Even if the songs don't mean anything to anyone else... Back in the spring of 1996, a particularly difficult time in my life due to health issues (which are thankfully also a thing of the past), I think of songs like Dishwalla's "Counting Blue Cars", Goo Goo Dolls' "Naked", The Samples' "Weight of the World", Jann Arden's "Good Mother", Shawn Colvin's "Polaroids"... Sorry, I'm rambling now!!! But, Brian, what a great topic you brought up!

and my friends in Newfoundland the moments of silencewe must take for one of the sadest days in our nation's history...Beaumont Hamel will never be forgotten.... I'm sorry to say I hadn't heard of Beaumont Hamel, so I researched it a bit on Wikipedia. << en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beaumont_Hamel>> There are some good links at the bottom of the article for further research. The description of this battle reminds me of The Battle of Antietam, near Sharpsburg, MD. More American lives were lost that day than in any other war-- so I guess this would be the U.S. equivalent of the Beaumont Hamel battle. I don't have a personal connection to the Civil War because my family only came to the U.S.-- from Scotland-- relatively recently, in the 1920s. But, I visited Antietam National Battlefield Park a couple of times-- the first was about 20 years ago. I don't believe in an 'afterlife', but the 'Sunken Road', aka 'Bloody Lane', which filled up with bodies during that portion of the battle, is still there. It gave me chills. One could almost feel the presences of all those lost boys & men. Very eerie-- and very sad. 'Burnside's Bridge' was another portion of the battle where there was horrendous waste of life. McClellan told Burnside to win the bridge, sending word, "Tell him if it costs 10,000 men he must go now." Insane. War is so complicated-- the complex economic, political,-- & sometimes religious-- pre-conditions, causal factors, etc. But it seems that, today, we are still repeating some very sad histories. Haven't we learned any lessons from the past? Can't we come up with a better way to resolve conflicts?

A voyage in life, on the road or otherwise. Yep, I totally agree, Jim-- I thought about setting up a separate topic after reading Brian's post earlier today, but haven't had a chance til now... I'm going to set it up in 'General Chatter'. I think, since we have the option of later modifying/editing our own posts, that this time I'm going to just post a short list of my 'Road Songs' & then keep editing it as I remember more of my music-related road & travel tracks & anecdotes. Hmm, now for the name of the topic. 'Travel Tracks'? 'On the Road' Music? 'Music For Airports'? (Brian Eno reference, anyone? Hmm, probably a bit too obscure for most... ) ...

I caught this on the hallmark channel a couple "o" weeks ago as I was unpacking at my new place..funny reading what brian said made sense about the editing out scenes of the secondary charecters, it really made the movie fall a little flat, too bad it couldve been better..that old lady that was always singing bugged me for some reason...I just saw a commercial for sybil- it will be on this saturday at nine on the "women's" channel- I dont recall which one..I doubt Ill be home but I will tivo it since I never caught the whole thing.
