In garden there is a scene where Stanley approaches Lilly and tells her he wants to water her garden, so she hands him the flower water can thing. As Stanley approaches her though he makes this gesture like he is putting on a boot, or putting on one pant leg. What does it mean? Or, is that a gesture that people often make or have made?

Its not an odd gesture for Stanley when luck seems to have found him. ;D

I asked someone at the bus stop what it means, and they said it means don't hurt me, I'm pulling myself up by my own bootstraps, for love. Would you like my bus pass? I have to go.
I'm not sure about the last part.
