For those who know (or are about to find out about) this Newfoundland classic (the first independent feature to come out of Newfoundland), it has been officially released ! The DVD includes 3 films, The Adventure of Faustus Bidgood (1976), Dolly Cake (1976) and Congratulations (2000), a commentary track for all films, and photo gallery. It is available from Andy Jones (who wrote and co-directed the film), for $22.60cdn. For orders coming from outside Canada, I'd ask about the extra cost of shipping first - it won't be a lot extra.
Andy Jones 175 Gower Street St. John's, NL A1C 1P7 Canada
There are hordes of people in Canada who are going to be ordering this DVD - Andy is a Canadian comic legend. His one man shows sell out everywhere. I'll try to find a link so those who need to know more about the film can check it out. Tell Andy I sent ya !

It's also available to order online at Fred's Records: www.freds.nf.caCurrently it's their best seller In case anyone's wondering what it's about: Faustus Bidgood works for the Department of Education, where he has hallucinations of being the president of the People's Republic of Newfoundland. Even his imaginary friend thinks he's crazy. Faustus also occasionally fantasises about killing his colleagues, including his boss - the scarily intense Fred Bonia-Coombs, who has his own agenda - Total Education... In fact, most of the characters in this film are pretty eccentric - the Premier of Newfoundland is off playing hide and seek, leaving poems as clues to his whereabouts. Meanwhile, there's a killer on the loose... Lexx connections - Faustus is played by Andy Jones (Smoor in GigaShadow). Brian Downey is Fred Bonia-Coombs. And there are a couple of other Lexxtras, including Mary Walsh (Hidea in Twilight). An interesting little film, and a Who's Who of Newfoundland talent. It defies description - possibly Cronenberg meets Monty Python? - but it's well worth a look.

Wow, great premise, it sort of reminds me of a Sociopath's version of "Life and Times of Reginald Perrin"....

It is a strange, but wonderful and interesting movie. And, for those of you who have been to Newfoundland, and have had trouble with some of the various dialects of English, I can assure you that there is nothing to fear - you will be able to understand EVERYTHING that is going on and being said. If this proves not to be the case, I'll offer a personal translation. Andy Jones also did a great turn in a comedy film called RARE BIRDS with William Hurt ( in my opinion, he was far better than William). To describe "Faustus" I'd have to recommend a dose of MONTY PYTHON, a dash of EXTRAS, some sprinkles of FAWLTY TOWERS, and a side of any BEN STILLER movie..... it is funny, absurd, engaging, and unforgettable .... it is also the best selling DVD at FRED'S RECORDS, the best and biggest CD/DVD store in St. John's .... even Brittany Spears takes a back seat .... wait a second .... she does that sort of thing a lot, doesn't she ? Faustus is worth a watch, I can't say the same thing about about the cut-rate diva.
