Arghh. I didn't notice until today that a remake of the prisoner is playing for 3 nights on AMC (a tv channel) here in the US. This is the last night. But, I think it's replaying starting on Sunday.

There's a remake of The Prisoner?! Patrick McGoohan must be spinning in his grave...
One remake that I'd quite like to see is V. I enjoyed the original series, for all the wrong reasons - silly camp fun (and Michael Ironside) - but with better effects and better acting it could have been really good.
But the remake I'm dreading is Edge of Darkness - British television's finest hour, remade as a Hollywood movie starring Mel Gibson - noooooooo

Goblin, I've seen the first 2 episodes of "V" online and so far it's pretty good. I think it could use a little more action, but the characters are intriguing (except for the FBI agent's annoying teenage son and his equally annoying sidekick... LOL) Morena Baccarin is excellent as "Anna" though I wish she would grow her hair out! You can view the first 2 eps here: abc.go.com/shows/vAnd as for the remake of "The Prisoner" I heard from an acquaintance that it... well... to quote him, he said "it blows."

Unless they made the remake really quickly, they must have been making it while Patrick McGoohan was alive. Even if the remake is terrible, I have to see it. The first time I went to the UK, I drove from Swindon in England to Portmeirion to see the village. Wales is beautiful.
I am enjoying V.

Episode 1 is certainly not an homage to the original. Or, it picks a few ideas from the original and makes a story out of those. There is a point where 6 starts to loose his grasp on what he thinks is reality that I don't remember from the original, which is an interesting touch that was only hinted at in the original. The music is great. It sounds like pet sounds era beach boys.

I've been to Wales several times, but I haven't been to Portmeirion yet. It would be fun to stay in the Village... Last time I stayed in Wales, my place was about 10 minutes from the nearest village - and that consisted of 6 houses, a post office/shop, and the pub... Still haven't seen V - the ABC site won't let me watch it because I'm outside of the US

I wonder if you could watch it using foxyproxy.mozdev.org/? If you are reading from your own computer and have firefox. You would need to find a proxy server in the US. I just tried to watch things on the BBC doctor who page using one of the proxy servers in the UK, and it's either really slow, or is being blocked. But, maybe that's just the BBC.

I watched the last episode of the remake last night, and I'm impressed. It has an explanation of what the village is in the last episode. It's pretty incredible. The remake is very hallucinatory. I'll have to watch the original series again to see if the explanation matches the old series. I don't think so.
I didn't notice the first time that at the very beginning there is a character, an old man, wearing the clothes from the village in the original series. So, maybe this is supposed to be a continuation of the series rather than a remake. I don't know what to make of it.
The new show is almost completely serious. The incidental music is all the beach boys from the time right before Brian Wilson had his mental collapse. Songs from Smiley Smile, plus some new music probably from Brian Wilson and some other beach boys songs.
Hmm... in the forum on AMC's website a person says about the character that is wearing clothes from the original series that the character comes from a graphic novel Shattered Visage which was supposedly "the prisoner" related, and that the comic book relates additional story lines following the series.
Also, I noticed that it says you can watch all of the original series 1960s series on the amctv web page.
