While Mr. Downey seems to be MIA ... I found this little write up about his latest project.
'The Disappeared' to star Billy Campbell and Shawn Doyle
Shooting starts this week off the coast of Lunenburg
by Vernon Oickle
The cast has been announced for "The Disappeared," which began filming September 12 in Lunenburg. The cast features names familiar with Nova Scotian productions including Billy Campbell, Shawn Doyle, Brian Downey, Gary Levert, Ryan Doucette and Neil Matheson.
"The Disappeared" is author and director Shandi Mitchell's compelling character study of six men lost to the unyielding power of the North Atlantic Ocean and will film for several weeks off the coast and around the area.
"We did extensive auditions amongst local actors and we're privileged to have them joined by Billy and Shawn," Ms Mitchell said. "Each of these actors has some personal connection to the sea and I can't imagine a better ensemble to bring this story alive."
Mr. Campbell, of AMC's Emmy Award-nominated hit series "The Killing," joins the cast as Mannie, the first mate. His resumé includes recurring roles on "The O.C.," "Dynasty," "Once and Again" and "Melrose Place," along with performances in "Ghost Town," "Enough" and "Bram Stoker's Dracula."
Named one of People Magazine's Most Beautiful People, Mr. Campbell has sailed on Lunenburg's tall ship Picton Castle, and his love of sailing and the sea drew him to this independent project.
Labrador-born actor Mr. Doyle plays the role of harpoon striker Pete. Previously, he appeared in three seasons of "Big Love"; guest-starred on "Desperate Housewives," "Lost" and "24"; and starred in "Endgame."
Mr. Doyle also starred in the Sundance Official Selection "Grown Up Movie Star."
Mr. Campbell and Mr. Doyle are joined on "The Disappeared" by veteran Canadian actor and musician Mr. Downey, who plays Captain Gerald.
Mr. Downey, who most recently played Drake, Rutger Hauer's nemesis in "Hobo With a Shotgun," won an Outstanding Performance Award at the Atlantic Film Festival for "Whirligig" and was the star of "Lexx" for its seven-year run.
Merv, the bosun, is played by Nova Scotia-based actor Mr. Levert, whose notable resumé includes international projects filmed on the Canadian East Coast. His latest credits include the television mini-series "Moby Dick" and the feature films "Afghan Luke" and "Charlie Zone," both premiering at the 2011 Atlantic Film Festival.
Halifax-based film and theatre performer Mr. Doucette is Gib, the cook and spotter. He recently starred in "Cloudburst," also premiering at this year's Atlantic Film Festival. Local actor Mr. Matheson rounds out the cast as young Dickie, the greenhorn, at sea for the first time.
"With this cast of actors and Shandi's beautifully rendered screenplay, we feel we have all the makings of a film that will attract audiences and buyers around the world," said producer Ralph Holt. "Casting director Sheila Lane helped pull this amazing group of men together."
Acquired by Astral's The Movie Network and Corus Entertainment's Movie Central, "The Disappeared" was developed and is being filmed with the financial support of Telefilm Canada and Film Nova Scotia with further development assistance from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage.
