I need everyone to pray for my dad. Tonight around 930pm he had a mini stroke.. We called 911 we had an ambulance and firetruck come to check my dad out and he passed everyything.. His stroke only lasted five minutes but it felt like so much longer.. My husband drove my mom and dad to the hospital.. he is staying at the hospital over night to keep an eye on him and run a whole mess of tests
He seems alright after he had the stroke.. he was aleart and remember what year it was and he remeber his birthday and such..
but still it was real scary...
Thanks!! Shannan Kevin Jessalyn

I am so sorry to hear of your father's stroke. I wish you and your family well and hope he recovers completely. It is a scary thing to see a father ill. I am dealing with my father's illness. He has lung problems from smoking and I know he will never be truly well but each day I have him is one to be thankful for. Take care...my thoughts and prayers are with you.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I pray that he will be okay.
It's strange, after reading Thespyma's post about lung problems, the ads on this site were all about smoking.

Your dad will be fine, but take this as a sign that something is wrong somewhere else. Have your dad get a complete physical, and make sure he follows a good diet with lots of vegetables, lots of fruit with color, and to be VERY careful about avoiding red meats, and any fatty or processed foods. There is a great book, that I know some people in here are aware of, that is a fantastic reference guide for helping either avoid, or to recover from, specific conditions. It is called "Prescription For Nutritional Healing" by Phyllis Balch. Every home should have a copy. I may have misspelled the authors name, but the title is accurate. It sells for about $30-$35 and THAT is NOT too much to pay for such a wealth of information. Getting healthy is hard - staying healthy is easy. brian

I think Brian gives good advice. Actively trying to be healthy is probably a good idea.
Along with meat and too much fat, too much alcohol and smoking are probably good to avoid. Stress is a good thing to avoid, as is being sedentary. Meditation (or prayer that is not asking for something) can probably promote health.
Moderation and being skeptical about anyone's health advice is probably a good idea. A change in diet can seem to go very well for a long time and then suddenly go wrong. I know this from having my gal bladder atrophy after having a very low fat diet for several months. So, it's good to even be skeptical of one's own experience.

Strokes, not a happy time. Physical therapy works wonders, but most important is that there is some one who cares. "staying healthy is easy" Brian I would like to learn more of this, maybe others would too.

to respond to type 13's message of Dec.24... What I meant by " getting healthy is hard, staying healthy is easy", is that the most difficult part of adopting a more sane diet, and a generally more healthy way to live, is the kicking of the bad habits, and patterns. A lot of people are out of control. Fast food has become so appealing, and, like the tobacco industry, those that manufacture it are quite aware that they add addictive substances to their products, that getting off the fast food, processed food, pre-packaged food, cycle is not easy. Here's an easy thing to do... READ the ingredients on the label of everything you buy. If more than 5 are things you don't recognize, then put it back. Never buy food at a place where you have to look upwards to read the menu...there is no such thing at a chain restaurant as a "healthy choice". So, once your cycle of dependence on quick and easy foods has been broken, and you have begun to do some simple things around the house/apartment to get a bit of exercise.... walking on your tip-toes for 15 minutes, lifting your 5 lb bag of sugar 25 times over your head with each hand, bending over without bending your knees to "tie your shoes", without having your shoes on.... and any other exercise you can easily do during everyday living, no matter where you are.... you will very quickly see enjoyable results... you WILL lose weight, you WILL have more energy, you WILL look better.... and the first thing.... never forget .... never again go to MacDonalds, Burger King, KFC, or any other corporate chains.... they are killing you slowly, but are killing you for sure, and they don't give a shit, they got your money, and they will never make you healthy. I will post a few recipes - if anyone asks - for some simple, easy to make, very healthy dishes that may sound a bit unfamiliar, but, believe me, ARE very tasty, and are actually good for you. brian

1st i wish topic starter's dad to get better and follow Mr. Downey recommendation, also i wish u to have faith in all best and wish u to think less about everything bad - bcoz if u realy believe in something and doing something to make it happen, it may happen.
Sorry to hear that, but... dont worry, im sure everything going to be good with your dad, he just need to pay more attention to his health and he will see kids of his grandkids))
2nd - wow, im impressed with your knowledge mr. Downey and its good to see that you are advertising healthy lifestyle and and standing in "no McDonalds" position (despite the fact that all this unhealthy food is so tasty ;D) , but i think that dinner with little portion on 1 time per very long period (like 1 year) in McD or any other unhealthy place will not kill anyone and will not reduce health. I mean if u following healthy lifestyle all the time, some rare unhealthy days will not do any harm)) Its a matter of dose and self-control.
3rd - this just gave me cool idea about extra episode for my "Insect Wars" spin-off script... or this idea will better suit my lexx 5 script... ...how do you like idea of Stan getting heart attack due of eating to much unhealthy food at some planet (where stan finaly could eat something much more tasty than lexx's so-called food) which will change a bit his character and will turn Stan into living propaganda of healthy lifestyle (which sorta represent your real position about it mr. Downey... i think it would be really usefull and cool if u will share your knowledge about health as Stan) ?
Hm gonna type script of this episode right now, Stan at unhealthy colonial planet totaly controlled by "MealLands corporation" which is all about fast death from fast food, and slogan of this corp would be something like "Eat fast, die happy".
